Two roads north
Massage near Issaquah, WA, and the two ways to get here.
Issaquah is not one place. The choice of route, though, stays binary from almost anywhere in town: the freeway version runs I-90 west to the interchange in Bellevue, I-405 north from there, then SR 520 east into Overlake. From the valley floor that is the obvious move, and from the Highlands side only the on-ramp really changes. Be clear about the first leg, because the road names mislead anyone who has not driven it — I-90 does not go to Redmond, it is how you reach I-405, and the turn north is the part nobody budgets for.
The second option has no freeway in it at all: north over the plateau through Sammamish, then down into Redmond, no interchange anywhere in the run. On a map it rarely wins. On a bad evening that stops being the point, because the plateau tends to slow down rather than stop outright, and a road that keeps moving is worth a longer line on the map. The Sammamish end of that same road has a page of its own — head spa near Sammamish.
Either way the planning number is 25 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Neither route is reliably faster. The range is wide on purpose, because an Eastside evening is not a fixed quantity and a single figure for this run would be wrong most nights. The two routes also go wrong in different places, which is why whichever one was quicker last Tuesday is not automatically tonight's answer — check live traffic before you pull out, then commit and stop relitigating it at the on-ramp.
| Route | How it runs | When it tends to win |
|---|---|---|
| Freeway | I-90 west → I-405 north → SR 520 east into Overlake | Off-peak, and from the valley floor or anywhere close to an I-90 on-ramp |
| Over the plateau | North through Sammamish, then down into Redmond — no freeway | When the interchange is stacked, and from the Highlands side of town |
